The new DZMR station inagurated
The dedication of the ninth and newest station of FEBC Philippines, 1143 DZMR Missions Radio in Santiago City, Isabela took place last March 2,2011
After numerous delays in its construction phase, the long wait has come to an end. The dedication ceremony was heard live over DZMR as part of their test broadcast.
This momentous event was graced by no other than Far East Broadcasting Company International Executive Director Rev. Carlos Peña.
With the station’s current location, its 10-kW Nautel XR-12 transmitter and 180-foot antenna-tower, its broadcast can reach the Cagayan Province in the north, Nueva Vizcaya in the south, Quirino in the east, and Cordilleras in the west. Initially, it will broadcast programs in Tagalog, Ilocano, Ibanag, Itawis and Kalanguya.

This month Pilipinas DX is celebrating it’s 4th year anniversary of airing DX News from the Philippines here on Wavescan. For the past 4 years since March 2007 every second Sunday of the month continuously privilege of sharing DX information from my end here in San Jose de Buenavista. I would like to thank everyone to those who sent their reception reports,sending station logs and other information’s. I would like to thankAdventist World Radio and Dr.Adrian Peterson, and Jeff White for the privilege to part of Wavescan. To all of you thank you very much.

Our QSL Featuring El Nido, Palawan
El Nido is located in the northernmost portion of Mainland Palawan.
Bordered in the north by the Linapacan Strait, in the south by the municipality of Taytay, in the east by the Sulu Sea, and in the west by the South China Sea
El Nido is approximately 430 kilometers southwest of Manila and about 238 kilometers northwest of Puerto Princessa City, the capital of Palawan.
El Nido really is a magical place. From its ageless towering marble cliffs to its white sandy beaches with crystal clear water, many refer to it as paradise. There are over 50 beaches to discover.You will also find enchanting lagoons, caves that can take you to hidden beaches, and a very diverse variety of wildlife.

Noticed SLBC’s signals have been surprisingly weak since the onset of the B10 season, leading to speculate they have reverted to their vintage 35 kW transmitter. You will recall that mid year they switched to their new 100kW transmitter at Ekala.

New FM stations

DWFM or 92.3 News FM is an FM radio station owned by Nation Broadcasting Corporation and operated by TV5. The station’s studios are located in Novaliches, Quezon City.
And another one the 94.1 Spirit FM Antique of the Catholic Media Network located here in our provincial capital San Jose de Buenavista , the FM station of DYKA 801 Khz MW.

Our DXer friend Nobuya Kato sent the following information about HCJB QSL Card
The Japanese service of HCJB Australia is currently issuing different QSL-cards every month. These cards are not issued by the station HCJB in Melbourne, but by the Yodobashi Church in Tokyo.
Now, July edition of its QSL-card is featuring an DX-pedition held from 25^th to 27th of last June. The participants of this DX-pedition are six Japanese men and held on a small island called “Katsurashima”. This island, Katsurashima is located in the bay of Matsushima, near Sendai, one of the major cities in the Northeast of Japan and apart from Tokyo approximately
350 kilometers. As this island is under noise-free environment, so we hold DX-pedition once or twice every year.

This QSL-card would be issued for the reception reports in July, but if you
miss to receive the broadcast within July, but you can ask the Yodobashi Church to issue the July edition even after the reports in August.

In today’s program we’ll continue our radio history series of medium wave stations here in the Philippines, DX News and our regular station logs.

History of FEBC Philippines

Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) Philippines started its humble beginnings in August 1946; John Broger its President at that time goes to Manila to seek a base for FEBC. Two months later the construction of Manila transmitters begun in Los Angeles, and in November final payment was made on 12.5 acres of land in Karuhatan, Bulacan here in the Philippines. In April of 1947 the Veidmarks arrive in the Philippines to begin preparation of the said property.
In May 31, 1948 KZAS AM license was granted and in June 4 KZAS (later redesignated as DZAS) goes on the air. A month later KZAS officially dedicated as FEBC’s first broadcast station on 680 KHZ
A 10,000 Watt transmitter DZH6 was added on July 29, 1949 and goes on the air as FEBC’s first Short Wave station.
Another Short Wave transmitter DZH7 was added in 1950 and FEBC distributed 3000 pretuned radio sets throughout the country.
By January 1951 there are 5 transmitters in operation at the karuhatan.
In January of 1953 there are 7 transmitters in operation DZAS, DZB2, DZH6 for Philippine coverage and DZH7, DZH9 and DZI6 for overseas service.
In July of 1954- DZFE, classical music station of FEBC was inaugurated as an AM station on 1030 Khz and later on switch to FM.
September of 1958 the first 50,000 watt (RCA) Short wave transmitter goes on the air at Bocaue.
In 1964 DXKI-FM was inaugurated in Koronadal, South Cotabato in Mindanao. Followed by DXJO (later DXAS Zamboanga) was inaugurated in 1969 in Jolo,Sulu, South Philippines.
Then another station DXFE was inaugurated in 1972 in Davao City, followed by DWAS in Legaspi City in 1973 and DYFR-FM in Cebu City in 1975.
Transmissions for China from Iba, Zambales started in July 1975via DWRF-AM with the power of 250 KW.

In 1985 DZB2 was officially inaugurated and for reaching the Mangyans in Mindoro Island.

On March 31, the new 100 KW transmitter were commissioned at Bocaue.

Today FEBC Philippines continue sharing the gospel throughout the country and FEBC International for Asia and the World.

DZAS now on 702 khz in Metro Manila.

In today’s program we’ll continue our radio history series of medium wave stations here in the Philippines, DX News and our regular station logs.

First, about The Edge Radio

There is a project to establish an FM station for The Edge Radio, a new contemporary Christian FM radio station that will broadcast to the 13 million of Metro Manila and selected regions of Asia via satellite and cable TV.

Currently, United Christian Broadcasters Initiative for Asia, thru The Edge Media, netcasts contemporary Christian music and great teaching programs on http://theedgemanila.ning.com.Also broadcasts thru The Edge Radio on 104.3 FM in Davao City, 90.3 FM in Lucena City and radio channel 3 on the Dream Satellite Network.

In our radio history series today will feature about the history of Bombo Radyo Philippines network.

Bombo Radyo Philippines is one of the largest radio networks in the Philippines spanning across 20 major provinces. It is a conglomeration of three smaller radio networks—Newsounds Broadcasting Network, Inc. (NBN), Consolidated Broadcasting System (CBS), and People’s Broadcasting Service (PBS). It is composed of 21 Bombo Radyo stations and 12 Star FM stations across the Philippines which provide news, public service, drama and music for the audience through the whole world.

Bombo a bass drum in English a popular music instrument is a symbol for the radio network. It is because a Bombo or bass drum is used in every studio of all Bombo Radyo Stations nationwide. It is used by all anchor men and women in their programs by beating the drum several times to stress points and give emphasize on the issues tackled on the air.

It is an effective instrument that listeners can hear live in each current affairs program. This is the brand where Bombo Radio Philippines leads for air wave supremacy. Its humble beginnings started in September 4, 1966 when it is first on air in the city of Iloilo here in Central Philippines where DYFM Bombo Radyo 837 Khz the flagship station was established.

In today’s program we’ll continue our radio history series of medium wave stations here in the Philippines, our regular station logs and some A2010 frequency Schedule.

Today will have the history of the Philippine broadcasting service (PBS)

Philippine Broadcasting Service (PBS) is a radio network in the Philippines. It is owned by the Philippine government with 26 AM stations and 5 FM stations.

On May 8, 1933, the U.S. government established and operated radio station DZFM (then KZFM) in the Philippines on frequency 710 kHz with a power of 10,000 watts through the United States Information Service. In September 1946, two months after the Philippines became an independent, KZFM was turned over to the Philippine government. With the transfer was born the Philippine Broadcasting Service, PBS the second broadcasting organization after Manila Broadcasting Company.

The station was first operated by the Department of Foreign Affairs until it was transferred to the Radio Broadcasting Board (RBB) which was created by President Manuel Quezon on September 3, 1937. Meanwhile in the same year, an international telecommunications conference in New Jersey, reassigned the letter “D” to replace the former “K” as the initial call letter for all radio stations here in the Philippines. In January 1942, the RBB was abolished to give way to the establishment of the Philippine Information Council (PIC) which then assumed the function of the RBB, including the operation of DZFM. In turn, the PIC was abolished on July 1, 1952, and since then, until the creation of the Department of Public Information in 1959.

Over the years hence, the PBS had acquired 13 more radio stations, one TV station. The National Media Production Center, NMPC, had acquired the facilities of the Voice of America in Malolos, Bulacan in 1965 and steadily brought the old complex up to standards. The NMPC operated the Voice of the Philippines, VOP, on both medium wave-918 kHz and shortwave 9.810 mHz transmissions. In 1975 obtained DWIM-FM. With this new station and some provincial stations that came under its wings earlier, the NMPC was a network and effectively covered a wide range of the Philippine listener ship.

The Broadcasting board and the NMPC were brought under one administrative roof in 1980 when the Office of Media Affairs was created to provide a union for both networks within the ABS-CBN Broadcast Center on Broadcast Drive in Quezon City.

After the EDSA Revolution, the Office of Media Affairs was abolished, followed by the NMPC, and finally, the BB.

That lay the blueprints and groundwork of the Bureau of Broadcast Services.

During Aquino administration, PBS transferred its office from ABS-CBN complex to PIA Building in Visayas Avenue until today.

Pilipinas DX is 3 years old this month. We have a special QSL Card for this occasion. This QSL Card number 4 featuring Mayon Volcano

Five hundred fifty three (553) kilometers from Manila, the capital city of the Philippines, rises a near perfect cone volcano and one of the seven wonders in the world, the famous Mayon Volcano. Its summit measures 2,421 meters above sea level while its circular base has a radius of about 48 kilometers and with a total land area of 5,775.70 hectares. Its symmetrical form at any horizontal direction made this volcano a truly scenic wonder.

Mt. Mayon is the most active volcano in the Philippines; records showed that a total of 47 periodic eruptions occurred during the last 323 years. The earliest volcanic eruption occurred in February 1814, which has caused severe destruction and the worst bringing cagsawa in a complete ruin of the town and submersed it to mud, boulders and ash. Another destructive eruption occurred in 1897 and the latest occurred in June 2001. But in spite of the rearing threats Mt. Mayon is still loved and admired regarding as the fountain of strength and persistence.

Starting today and in the months to come we will feature history of several radio networks here in the Philippines.

Today will feature about Radio Mindanao Network (RMN)

Radio Mindanao Network Inc. or RMN Networks is one of the largest radio networks in the Philippines. The network’s first radio station is DXCC, established in Cagayan de Oro on the island of Mindanao in August 28, 1952. The callsign meant the radio partnership of Canoy and Cui. It was changed later to a neutral meaning Cagayan de Oro Community.

Sometime in 1948, Don Henry R. Canoy, together with friends, set-up two home built tube radio receivers and placed them in an abandoned chicken poultry in Cagayan de Oro for the purpose of listening radio broadcast from Manila.They ended up listening radio broadcast at night when reception was better.The group managed to self-assemble a 30 watts radio transmitter from surplus parts brought in Manila. Henry Canoy broke the airwaves as Pirate radio in 1949 declaring “This is Cagayan de Oro calling…”. As it was an unauthorized test broadcast, it did not have the assigned call letters from the Radio Control Office (RCO) to which the station could be associated with.

In 1950 decided to establish a more powerful radio station legally by applying for a congressional franchise in Manila to support its lawful operation. In 1951, they set up the fledging station in partnership and on June 23, 1952 he was granted a permit to maintain and operate a radio broadcasting station.

They built their own 500-watt AM transmitter with the assistance from Far East Broadcasting Company engineers. The transmitter was transported to Mindanao.With only a telescopic steel pole as antenna borrowed from the Bureau of Telecom, the improvised horizontal radio antenna was mounted attaching one end of a copper wire to the pole and the other end to a 30 meters coconut tree a block away .The Radio Control Office (RCO) assigned the station a broadcast frequency of 1560 kHz.

On July 4, 1952, it went on air for test broadcast the second time It officially started broadcasting on August 28, 1952.. Listeners anticipated the first words they would hear on radio and were greeted the station ID and the following words “You are tuned to Station DXCC, broadcasting with a power of 500 watts on 1560 kilocycles from Cagayan de Oro’s ” Gateway to Mindanao!” and every hour thereafter.

The success of its broadcasting concept enabled DXCC to expand. And so the string of community stations became Radio Mindanao Network.

Today Radio Mindanao network have 20 AM stations and 22 I FM stations nationwide.

Attending from the world headquarters were Pastor Brad and Mrs Kandus Thorp, president and vice-president, respectively, of the Hope Channel. Pastor Thorp spoke about the beginning and transformation of Hope Channel into a worldwide media ministry of the church that broadcasts thousands of programs that cater to all age groups on all its 13 satellite stations covering the globe.

Christmas is fast-approaching, with with all the festive sights and sounds all around. I would like to greet everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year. In Filipiino “Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong taon sa inyong lahat.
In today’s program we have few items.
First, Journalists condemn Maguindanao Massacre.
Philippine and foreign media organizations condemned the massacre of at least 57 people, including journalists, In the November 23 political related incident in Maguindanao, Southern Philippines.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) challenged the government to take immediate action.
Philippines, the second highest number of journalists killed after Iraq.
In solidarity,the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas ( KBP) also expressed outrage and condemned the massacre.
Also the Philippine press institute (PPI) echoed the sentiments of other media groups and joined the call to urge the government to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Hello everyone and welcome to the November edition of the Philippine DX News. This report No.33 and I’m Henry Umadhay in Antique, Philippines. Glad to be back and thank you for tuning by. In today’s program we have few items about FEBC new MW station, B09 Frequency Schedule and reception log.

First about FEBC AM Station DZMR

When the radio station -1143 AM DZMR Santiago, Isabela in Northern Philippines – begins its operation this year, there will be programs in Ilocano, Ibanag, Itawis and Kalanguya.
The goal is to broadcast in at least 14 local dialects and languages to reach more people groups especially in the mountainous areas of the Cagayan Valley and Cordillera regions including three people groups who were once headhunters.
Besides daily bible readings in Ilocano, 1143 DZMR Santiago will also produce original songs in all dialects that the broadcast reaches. When it is fully operational, the radio station will offer Christian programming to more people groups than any Christian radio station. This early, Back to the Bible- Philippines is planning to reach out to the Ilocano, Ibanag, Itawis and Kalanguya by producing radio programs which will be aired through DZMR Santiag 1143 Khz.

Radio Sweden
No More Printed Schedule or QSL Cards
With the start of the new transmission period for short and medium wave, as well as satellite, on October 25, Radio Sweden will only be publishing the broadcast schedule on the web.
This a logical consequence of the increasing importance of the internet as broadcast platform and because they stopped broadcasting their programs in Swedish.

At the same time they are simplifying their marketing and audience services.

At the same time they are discontinuing mailing QSL Cards to listeners in response to reception reports.

Greetings to all our regular listeners and to those who just tuned in welcome to the October edition of the Philippine DX News. This report No.32 and I’m Henry Umadhay in Antique, Philippines. Glad to be back and thank you for tuning by. In today’s program we have few items.First, On September 26, 2009, typhoon brought a month’s worth of rainfall to metro manila and nearby areas in just a few hours, causing severe flooding which resulted in the loss of many lives and the displacement of the hundreds of thousands of people. In the latest report of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC Philippines). The total number of casualties is 335, estimated costs of damaged is P5.2 billion pesos.
Typhoon has compromised the transmitter at FEBC’s Bocaue shortwave installation. They are currently assessing the degree of damage. Extensive destruction would prevent the broadcast from going out for weeks, even months. But in the latest information I received from FEBC In spite of flood waters pouring in the shortwave installation building in Bocaue, no permanent damage took place in the transmitters and the station went back on the air for millions throughout Asia.
However, there is a new typhoon bearing down on the Philippines as I write this report.
So please pray for the Philippines. Asked God to help and comfort the many thousands of Filipinos living in the flood area. That it does not devastate those already in harm’s way.

Mid HF Band Blackout–due to Coronal Hole
In his report on September17, 2009 while dutifully performing his monitoring activities he noted that both the 25 and 31 meter bands and to lesser extent the 49 meter band where dead here in the Philippines from sometime before 2000 to between 2100 and 2200 and the recurring coronal hole reported jointly by the U.S. Air force and NOAA now firmly convinced that the brief blackout noted is a result of ejections through the reported recurring coronal hole.
The outer atmosphere of the sun is called the corona and when a hole occurs in it, a coronal mass ejection (CME) originates. When a CME occurs, whether or not it is accompanied by a solar flare, most of the electrons and protons ejected never reach the earth as their trajectory takes them elsewhere. If they do reach the earth, it is some 20 to 40 hours after the CME. As these charged particles travel along, providing their orientation is just right, they can distort the earth’s geomagnetic field, causing a geomagnetic storm. This results in acceleration of the particles to energy levels that permit them to enter the ionosphere at the poles. This energy influx causesauroral displays at the mid latitudes and can disrupt shortwave (HF) communications for up to several hours or longer

RADIO FREE ASIA RELEASES THIRD RADIO PIONEER QSL CARD
Radio Free Asia announces the release of the third QSL card in its Radio Pioneer series. The card honors Serbian-born American physicist, Nikola Tesla. Tesla was a pioneer in many fields. The Tesla coil, which he invented in 1891, is widely used today in electronic equipment. Nikola Tesla patented the basic system of radio in 1896. Tesla’s schematic diagrams describing the basic elements of a radio transmitter were later used by Marconi. In 1896 Tesla constructed an instrument to receive radio waves. He experimented with this device and transmitted radio waves from his New York laboratory. The radio device clearly establishes Nikola Tesla as a radio pioneer. In Colorado Springs, where he stayed from May 1899 until 1900, Tesla made what he regarded as his most important discovery– terrestrial stationary waves. By this discovery Tesla proved the Earth could be used as a conductor and would be as responsive as a tuning fork to electrical vibrations of a certain frequency. He also lighted 200 lamps without wires from a distance of 25 miles and created man-made lightning. FEBC Philippines
After 61 years of broadcasting the Good News, FEBC privileged to minister to different ethnic groups through their heart languages. Our stations in Mindanao have broadcasts in Cebuano, which is widely used in the region. They also carry programs in Ilonggo and other Visayan languages. In addition, there are broadcasts in particular tribal dialects, such as Tiruray, Manobo and T’Boli in 1116 DXKI Koronadal and Matigsalog in 1197 DXFE Davao. When 1143 DZMR Santiago City begins to operate, there will be broadcasts in Ilocano, which is the lingua franca or the most common language in Northern Luzon and the Cordilleras. Furthermore, there will be programs in Ibanag, Itawis and Ifugao, which are the heart languages of some people groups in the area. We hope to eventually broadcast in 10 more languages and dialects in the years to come.

Church acquires TV/Radio franchise in the Philippines
One of the latest feats in the history of the church in the Philippines was to acquire a license to operate television and radio stations in the country. For some years this had been the dream of church leaders to go on air by way of obtaining a franchise for nationwide broadcasts.
That historic event was sealed on May 21, after several months of negotiation, when the officers of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in southern Philippines (SPUC) signed the memorandum of agreement with Conal and Digital Holdings. This legal document transfers the right of the former owner to the Adventist Church to operate a television and radio network in the Philippines. Henceforth, Hope Channel will operate its stations in the Philippines under this franchise.
The acquirement of the franchise started the process of applying for TV and radio frequencies in towns and cities all over the country, said Dr Jonathan C Catolico, communication director for the church in the southern Asia-Pacific region (SSD).
The representatives of the church have started working with the government’s national telecommunication commission to process applications for frequencies. An initial number of 20 ultra high frequency stations have been targeted to cover a wide geographical area of the country.
The Hope Channel studio facility in Cagayan de Oro City will serve as the headquarters of Hope Channel in the Philippines. Other production studios in northern and central Philippines will beef up production for national and international broadcasts.
Pastor Wendell Serrano, SPUC president,signed the transfer agreement on behalf of the Adventist Church in the Philippines.
Under special fund of the world church, the establishment of the Adventist broadcasting network in the Philippines, along with the setting up of Hope Channel production facilities in the three regions of the country, and program production for local and international broadcasts will hasten the completion of the Lord’s work in this part of the world,” remarked church leaders.

Broadcasting Pioneer DZRH Turns 70
70 years ago, at exactly 6 in the morning, announcer Hal Bowie took his seat before a microphone in a little studio at the top of the Heacock Building in Escolta, and bid his unseen audience good morning. Thus was born the fourth commercial radio station to operate in Manila. In just a few years, with the entire Philippine archipelago caught in the maelstrom of the Second World War, the fledgling station – which took the call sign KZRH – would buck the challenge of history and remain as the only surviving radio station in the country.
It’s a suspicious beginning as the mouthpiece of one of the largest department stores in the Pacific must have laid the groundwork for the station’s commercial viability all these years – a major factor in the survival of the so-called “stepchild of media arts.”
New as it was, KZRH management led by Bertrand Silen was not just armed with the technical know-how in radio operations, but likewise had fundamental marketing knowledge down pat. They knew what radio listeners liked and disliked.
Musical variety shows, comedy skits, and short newscasts were the order of the day. Jazz and ballads became standard fare. Together with American wit, the English language spread. KZRH found itself as an advertising medium. Apart from 15-minute block time sold to advertisers, commercial spots mixing announcements with music were also produced. KZRH found itself amidst lucrative times.
Then came the grim shadow of war. The Japanese Imperial Army took over the sophisticated equipment, which eventually got blown sky-high by the Americans. And while Silen’s staff – considered the best in the Far East – found themselves either in Bataan at the internment camps of Santo Tomas and Los Banos, within the guerilla movement, or simply felled by enemy bullets, plans for the rebirth of KZRH upon liberation were kept alive.
Upon being released, Silen sought help from the National Broadcasting Company in New York to secure new transmitters, and with the financing the new operations at the Insular Life Building on Plaza Cervantes, KZRH was back on the air under the auspices of Manila Broadcasting Company on July 1, 1946 – just in time to cover the inauguration of the new Republic.
Soon after, the International Telecommunications Union adjusted the call letters of Philippine radio, and all allusions to the western United States through the letter K were removed. Until today, all radio stations in the Philippines begin with the letter D.
Over a decade, the station embarked on a “One Nation, One Station” initiative, expanding its coverage to an unprecedented 97% of the Philippine archipelago. To date, DZRH is the only station in the country that is on the air nationwide 24/7 on stereo, simulcast via satellite to relay stations in key provincial cities.

Philippine Radio is changing far more rapidly than ever before. Several networks launched distinctive interactive services and most reliably innovative broadcast. Switches to this format and is expanding radio not only to inform, educate and entertain but now the listening audience can participate through SMS .As reported The Philippines named as “The TEXT or SMS capital of the World” with average of 250-400 millions text messages sent per day. Using this mobile service, the listeners have direct connection to a radio station, a chance to pass comments and opinions to the current issues tacked on-the-air.
Another Radio Station now on TV simulcasts on AM bandAbout two years ago a leading network pioneer Teleradyo, combination of Radio and Television, DZMM of ABS-CBN a simulcast on the AM Radio station as well as a live video feed of the radio booth itself.
Second in the row DZRH TV. DZRH TV was a VHF station of Manila Broadcasting Company aired from 1960 to 1972.On October 1, 2008 DZRH-TV revived as an interactive radio/cable TV channel. This card featuring our province Antique.

Antique is a province located in the Western Visayas region. Its capital is San Jose de Buenavista and is located at the western portion of Panay Island, bordering Aklan, Capiz, and Iloilo to the east. Antique faces the Sulu Sea to the west.
Antique was one of the three old districts of Panay before the Spanish colonizers arrived in the islands. The Antique was then known as Hantik, which was named after the large red ants found on the island, called hantik. The Spanish chroniclers, however, recorded it as “Hantique” in the French manner. Later, the initial “h” was dropped, and the name officially became “Antique.”

Antiqueños are very hospitable people who would go out of their way to extend assistance to visitors and guests.
A typical rural area with agriculture, fishery, livestock and poultry, forestry, trade, commerce, and industry and mineral resources
The mineral resources that abound in the province are coal, marble, copper, gold, limestone, silica gemstone and others. An indication of oil deposit was recently discovered at Maniguin Island in Culasi.

Antique is composed of 18 municipalities. Famous for it’s Rafflesia,the biggest flower in the world discovered in the 5511hectare Sibalom National park.

Historians believe that the earliest people who settled on the island of Panay were tribal Negritos or Atis. Oral history, related as the legend of Maragtas, states that in 1212, ten Malay datus escaped persecution from Sri-Vishaya, a Hindu-Malay empire that existed at that time in Borneo and Sumatra. These datus, led by Datu Puti, sailed with their families and communities from Borneo northward and landed on Panay .
There they met the Negrito chieftain Marikudo. They bought the island from the chieftain for a golden saduk (headpiece or helmet), and a golden necklace, among other gifts. The Negritos then retreated to the mountains, while the Borneans settled in the lowlands. Today, the landing is commemorated every year in Antique in the Binirayan festival.
The island of Panay was then divided into three districts. These are Hantik, Aklan, and Irong-Irong. Aklan became the present-day Aklan and Capiz, Irong-Irong became Iloilo, and Hantik became Antique. Hantik was named for the large red ants found on the island called lantik-lantik.
The district of Hantik was given to Datu Sumakwel one of the ten datus, and who, according to tradition, was the oldest and wisest of them. The three districts were later governed as a political unit called the Confederation of Madia-as, also under Datu Sumakwel.
Datu Sumakwel founded the town of Malandog , considered to be the first Malay settlement in the country. Malandog is now a barangay in the present-day municipality of Hamtic, which was named after the historic district.

Binirayan festival
This started in San Jose de Buenavista 34 years ago by the late Gov. Evelio B. Javier - a week long festivities of colorful street parades, beach shows, plaza concerts, beauty contest and trade fair. “Binirayan” biray or “sailboat” in Kinaray-a, Antique’s local language), refers to the difficult journey of the 10 datus to reach Malandog beach, where they befriended the Atis (Aetas) and eventually started a civilization in pre-Hispanic times.

We have only one MW station dyKA 801 khz and two fm station HotFm and Radio Natin Fm.

For the first time I heard SIBC Solomon Islands Boroadcasting from Honaira in the frequency of 9545khz from 0750- 0855 UTC with S-I-O rating of 3-3-3, with news and religious music last march 1st,2009.

On February 16, 2009 TC did some listening on the 22 and 19 meter bands. Scanned the 22 meter band between 0000 and 0100 and among others, heard the following:

13650 Voice of Korea from Kujang in Mandarin;
13690 Radio Australia from Shepparton in English;
13710 Radio Free Asia relay via Tinian in Burmese;
13760 Radio Havana from Havana in Spanish;
13795 All India Radio from Bangalore in Tamil; and
13815 Radio Free Asia relay via Irana Wila in Burmese.

Carried out a similar scan on the 19 meter band between 0100 and 0200 and among the stations heard were the following:

15180 Voice of Korea from Kujang in English;
15220 Radio Free Asia relay via Tinian in Tibetan;
15250 CVC International from Darwin in English;
15280 Radio Veritas Asia from Paluig in Urdu;
15310 BBC Worldservice relay via Kranji in English;
15335 BBC Worldservice relay via Kranji in English;
15360 BBC Worldservice relay via Nakhon Sawan in English;
15385 Voice of America relay via Tinang in Mandarin;
15410 HCJB Australia from Kununurra in English;
15415 Radio Australia from Shepparton in English;
15645 Far East Broadcasting Company FEBC from Bocaue in Chinese
15490 Radio Pakistan from Islamabad in Urdu; and
15720 Radio New Zealand International from Rangataiki in English.

On February 20, between 0930 and 1030 he did some searching on the 49, 41 and 31 meter bands, specifically for trans-Pacific signals using the Grundig Satellit 750. Here are some North Americans stations he heard:

For some DX News:A notable station which I can hear nowadays in my location is Radio Jeddah of the broadcasting service of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia broadcasting from 1000-1230 UTC in English intended to West and Central Africa but it is very audible here.I came across their broadcast for the first time last December 24, 2008 with S-I-O rating of 3-3-3 but sometimes with noise and interference.
T8WH- World Harvest Radio Relay station in the Island of Palau noted in the frequency of 15680 kHz from 0230 to 0400 UTC transmission in English with religious programming. This transmitting station owned now by the World Harvest Radio (formerly by the High Adventures Ministries), former call signs T8BZ, KHBN using 4 x 100 KW transmitters.

Did a bit of hunting for European signals on the 41 and 49 meter bands
during the pre-sunrise period this morning and was able to log the
following:

VATICAN CITY - Vatican Radio on 5885 from Santa Maria di in Spanish around
2124. Fair to good, relatively interference free signal subject to moderate
levels of atmospheric noise and suffering from occasional deep propagational
fade.

PORTUGAL - Deutsche Welle relay on 6075 via Sines in German at 2135, Fair to
good signal plagued by some unidentified same channel interference and
moderate to severe levels of atmospheric noise.

MOLDOVA - WYFR (Family Radio) relay on 6240 via Kichinev in English at about
2140.
Only a fair but relatively interference free signal further troubled by
moderate to severe levels of both atmospheric noise and propagational fade.

GERMANY - Radio Liberty relay on 7165 via Wertachtal in Byelorussian at
2145, This relatively interference free signal exhibited fair to good
strength and was troubled by only slight levels of noise. Unfortunately the
signal was subject to intermittent spells of deep fade.

A notable station from the Middle east which I heard for the first time here in San Jose,Antique central Philippines for the first time last December 24,2008 @ 1200 UTC in the frequency of 15250 Khz is Radio Jeddah from K.S.A. in English of the Broadcasting Service of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.I understand that the broadcast intended to Liberia and Zambia but the S-I-O Rating is quiet good of 3-2-3 to 3-3-3. maybe the transmission is what they called "OFF THE BACK OF THE BEAM".

T8WH Palau of the World Harvest Radio noted on 15680 kHz from 0230-0400 UTC with religious programming S-I-O 3-3-3 sometimes with interference.
